Over the weekend, Minister of Technology Zoltán Tanács made a notably forward-looking statement, suggesting that the “unjustified restrictions” currently affecting the crypto asset market should be lifted. Details are expected soon, but for market participants this is already a significant signal.
Interestingly, the announcement came in the context of NIS2 compliance. By June 30, approximately 4,000 Hungarian companies must complete a cybersecurity audit, while the market currently lacks sufficient auditor capacity and Hungary’s regulatory framework remains among the strictest in Europe.
Following ongoing discussions between the Government and the SZTFH (Supervisory Authority for Regulatory Affairs), the following changes are reportedly under consideration:
✅ More companies may become eligible to conduct audits
✅ Compliance requirements may become more flexible
✅ Audit costs in the high and critical-risk categories may decrease
The regulatory landscape is clearly evolving — both in the crypto and cybersecurity sectors. The coming weeks will be worth watching closely.
